General Event Information
Q: What is Engineering Day (eDay)?
A: Engineering Day (eDay) is a hands-on STEM event hosted by the Herff College of
Engineering at the University of Memphis. The event introduces students to engineering
through interactive activities, competitions, and real-world demonstrations designed
to spark curiosity and reinforce classroom concepts.
Q: Who can participate in the Fall 2026 Engineering Day (eDay)?
A: Engineering Day is open to all students in grades 3-8. Students from public, private,
charter, and homeschool settings are all welcome to participate.
Q: Is there a cost to attend Engineering Day?
A: No, Engineering Day is a free event for all participants.
Q: How do we register for Engineering Day?
A: Schools may register using the official registration form. For changes, contact
eday@memphis.edu.
Q: How many teams can a school bring?
A: There is no limit to the number of teams a school may register.
Q: Can students register/participate individually or do they need a team?
A: Students may participate individually or as part of a team. Individual students
can register as their own team.

Q: What time should we arrive and when does the event end?
A: Engineering Day runs from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with registration opening at 9:00
AM. Schools are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to their competition
time.
Q: Are students required to have a chaperone?
A: Yes, all students must be accompanied by a chaperone at all times while on the
University of Memphis campus.
Q: How do students arrive and where can we park?
A: Transportation and parking details will be announced soon.
Q: Will food be provided during Engineering Day?
A: Food will not be provided. Students may bring lunches or purchase food from campus
dining locations.
Q: When will competition winners be announced?
A: Winners will be announced following Engineering Day and awards will be provided
to schools.
Q: Do any competitions require work prior to arriving at the event?
A: Yes. All competitions encourage students to practice or familiarize themselves with the challenge format ahead of time. Additionally, some competitions may require students to complete a build or project before arriving and bring it with them on the day of the event, while other competitions will be completed entirely on-site. Official competition rules and detailed guidelines will be released soon. These materials will outline the specific requirements for each competition, including whether advance preparation or pre-built materials are required, team size limits, judging criteria, and any materials students should bring.
Q: Do students need to compete in teams with others from the same grade level?
A: No. Student teams may be composed of any combination of students within the full 3rd-8th grade range. Teams do not need to be grouped by grade level, so students from different grades (e.g., 4th and 7th, or 7th and 8th) are welcome to work together on the same team.
