Dr. Sabya Mishra receives highest faculty honor at University of Memphis

Dr. Sabya Mishra, of the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at the Herff College of Engineering, received the 2026 Williard R. Sparks Eminent Faculty Award, the highest honor for a faculty member at the University of Memphis.
The honor comes two months after the Center for Transportation, Innovation, Education, and Research (C-TIER), of which Dr. Mishra serves as director, received $2 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to research high-risk work zones in order to create safer work environments for commercial drivers and commercial driving vehicles.
Dr. Mishra has focused on transportation engineering since 2013, focusing on artificial intelligence-enabled transportation systems, freight and logistics, multimodal mobility and roadway safety. His research is dedicated to reducing fatalities and injuries. Under his leadership, the department maintains a commitment to research-driven solutions that enhance road safety, transit efficiency and urban development.
