Several members of the University of Memphis' American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) student chapter traveled alongside faculty advisor Dr. Alexander Headley to Indianapolis during the first weekend of October for ASME's Student Leadership Weekend.

"The weekend was a great opportunity to connect with other ASME chapters, exchange ideas and learn new ways to strengthen student involvement and professional development. I especially enjoyed hearing how other student leaders approach challenges within their organizations and sharing some of our own experiences," said UofM ASME member Gavin Loyd.

The event brought together ASME student leaders from across the country, offering a collaborative environment for those student leaders to exchange ideas, build leadership skills and learn new ways to improve member involvement, professional development and chapter growth.

"Over the past year, I've grown so much as a leader through our section at the Herff College of Engineering," said UofM ASME member Shaun Bowlin. "That growth continued by spending the weekend with other student leaders, trading ideas and talking through shared challenges, truly showing me how much we can learn from our peers."

Loyd and Bowlin both said they're eager to take the lessons learned at the conference and apply them to their chapter at the Herff College of Engineering.
