Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award in Mechanical Engineering Winner

Marc Cicalla
"It is never too late to start researching."
Marc Cicalla works with Dr. Daniel Foti, Associate Professor at Graduate Program Coordinator at the Herff College of Engineering.
Marc assists Dr. Foti on the wind wall project and assists students in the Verticall Integrated Projects program with their research. He also works alongside other faculty and fellow students to study how rain drops form.
After graduating, Marc plans to either enroll in the EiT program at Siemens or continue his research in pursuit of a PhD with Dr. Foti.
Marc said some of his favorite memories at the Herff College of Engineering include figuring out how to heat orphanages, trips with the AIAA VIP and DBF teams and visiting the Kennedy Space Center. Before graduating, he looks forward to seeing how Hondajet planes are put together and how engineers improve the planes.
"It is never too late to start researching," Marc told his fellow students. "Current students, I'd look over the current VIP offerings and get with the mentor that has an area of concentration that piques your interest. See if what they are doing interests you. If it does, see what you can do to get involved. For the future students, get involved as soon as you can. It will be so rewarding in the end."
