"Not only did these experiences help me succeed academically, but they also helped
me learn more about engineering outside the classroom and become a part of our engineering
community."
The Herff College of Engineering proudly recognized Tanya K. Prahalathan as its Mechanical Engineering Outstanding Senior for spring semester 2026.
Tanya said that the Herff College of Engineering has provided her a strong foundation as she prepares to enter either graduate school or the workforce.
"I am extremely grateful to the Mechanical Engineering Department and to all of the faculty and staff who have encouraged and supported me throughout my time at the UofM. Their guidance and willingness to help have had a lasting impact on my experience," Tanya said.
The Spring Semester 2026 Mechanical Engineering Outstanding Senior got involved on campus right away upon joining the Herff College of Engineering as a freshman, living in the Living Learning Residence Complex and joining student organizations, which she credits with strengthening her community and bolstering her academic success.
"I will always remember spending time with friends, working through concepts together, and having breakthroughs where everything suddenly made sense. I have also enjoyed participating in student organizations and attending industry tours. Not only did these experiences help me succeed academically, but they also helped me learn more about engineering outside the classroom and become a part of our engineering community," Tanya said.
She encouraged younger students to follow the same path and take advantage of every opportunity presented to them.
"My advice to current and future mechanical engineering students is to be involved. Join organizations, attend events, and do not be afraid to go to your professors’ office hours. Asking questions and building relationships with your professors can open doors for new opportunities and have a positive impact on your learning," Tanya said.
