December 14, 2023 — The University of Memphis Board of Trustees has approved Cato Johnson as its next Chairman, effective at its next scheduled meeting in March. He succeeds Doug Edwards, who has served as Chairman since March 2021.

Johnson is a founding member of the Board, serving in various capacities since its formation in 2016, including co-vice chair for the past two years. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the UofM, is a past president of the Alumni Association and was a 2019 Distinguish Alumni Award recipient.

“I am both honored and humbled,” Johnson said. “I am proud to be a graduate and member of this Board, and I will do my level best to make sure I follow in the footsteps of our two previous amazing chairs and continue to serve this tremendous Board that I have come to love.”

Johnson has served as Chief of Staff and Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare since 1985.
