Communities of Research Scholars Program Funds Record Number of Awards

Venture brings together diverse group of UofM, external faculty to lead various projects

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A record number of research projects spanning several disciplines received funding through the Communities of Research Scholars in 2023. The Division of Research & Innovation at the University of Memphis funded 27 teams, making it the largest cohort to receive these awards.

Established in the fall of 2018, Communities of Research Scholars (CoRS) was created to cultivate interdisciplinary discourse and nurture the growth of research across the UofM. Each community is made up of faculty members representing multiple disciplines, perspectives and research approaches with a shared interest in exploring a common research theme.

Throughout the course of the CoRS program, the funded projects engage in building communities that grow the research capacity of the University while engaging partners both locally and nationally. These seed funding projects are designed to foster the growth of research across all disciplines.

CoRS team projects will be conducted over the next eight months. They will present their research at mid-implementation and then again for a final report of their findings. Those who are interested in engaging with the projects, reach out to the faculty teams directly or contact researchdev@memphis.edu. All teams will pursue external funding opportunities to sustain their work.
