Women of Rail Research
About Our Project
The University of Memphis SETWC, Fairpointe Planning, and Tennessee State University
are conducting research sponsored by the Federal Railroad Administration designed
to develop:
- Rich understanding of inhibitors and accelerators to recruitment and retention of women in the rail industry
- A detailed set of recommendations for increasing representation of women in diverse rail occupations
- A resource toolkit designed to support public and private sector organizations in improving gender diversity in the rail industry
Our goal is to fill the knowledge gap and provide insight and resources that increase awareness and positive perceptions of rail caereers, positioning the industry to be recognized for career pathways of choice for all genders.
The project goes beyond current workforce development efforts to create comprehensive, data-driven, and implementable tools for the rail industry to positively impact gender diversity.
