Registering for Classes

Registration is more than adding or dropping classes: it's a process that takes preparation as well as follow-through in order to make sure that your student gets best schedule possible with the least amount of trouble. With that in mind, review the process as outlined below.

Before Registration Opens

View Dates
Your student should check the appropriate semester Dates & Deadlines calendar to determine registration and term dates, and their first day to register.

View Courses
Class offerings are available online, usually one month before registration opens.

View Financial Aid
Login to the portal. Students can click on the Student Pages tab and then click My Finances to review and accept their financial aid awards.

View Registration Status
Students should login to the portal and select the Register for Classes link (Student page under Online Registration). Choose Registration Status. Look in particular at:

  1. Holds - Your student cannot register if they have any Registration holds. Your student can contact the office that placed the hold to determine how to remove it. Read about Holds.
  2. Registration Notices - Your student must be a current student with an Active status for the term. If you see these messages—"you have no registration time ticket," "you require readmission," "your status prevents registration,"—your student must apply for admission or readmission before registering. (Note: If they skip a Fall or Spring term, theirr status changes to "Inactive" and they must be readmitted.)

Meeting with Their Advisor
If your student is a degree-seeking student, they must be cleared to register by their advisor or advising unit. Otherwise, they will be blocked from registering by the "Alternate PIN" screen. Once their advisor clears them, they will not encounter this roadblock again. Visit Academic Advising for advising information.

Once Registration Opens

Login and Register
Students should register online through the myMemphis portal as early as possible for the best course selection; once they are in the portal, look for the Register for Classes  link on their Student page. Also:

Pay Fees
Students need to pay their fees online (select the Student page in the portal), or pay in person at the University Student and Business Services, 115 Wilder Tower. Refer to the for fee payment deadlines and other fee-related information, including fee payment methods, and possible refunds.

Summer 3+3 Scholarship

Under this program, the UofM will provide a direct grant to cover the tuition cost of the second 3 credit hour class taken by eligible students. The direct financial support will be calculated based on your residency status for the assessed tuition and applied as a credit/refund on your account.

Sophomores not eligible for the 3+3 program will be provided a $500 grant toward their second 3 credit course. The funds will be credited as a refund on the students account. This grant will be on top of the credit/refund of online fees and translates into a total grant amount or refund of $800 for six credit hours. Learn more about the scholarship >

Junior and Senior Summer Grant

For our upper class student populations (juniors and seniors), we are offering a $500 grant to assist with their costs when enrolled for two classes (six credits or more) in the summer 2021 semester. The additional direct grant will be on top of the grant that students will receive to cover the online course fees. For a student taking two classes, or six credit hours, this will result in a total grant amount or refund of $800.
