About Dr. Sparks

Benjamin Sparks is an Instructor of French at the University of Memphis. He received his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University with an emphasis on the Francophone world. He has been at the University of Memphis since 2016. He teaches a variety of courses in the French Language program as well as a course on conversation and composition. He has taught upper-division and graduate courses on Francophone literature and culture and 21st-Century literature.

His research focuses on the Francophone world, emphasizing North Africa, especially the literature and cultural productions of colonial and post-colonial Algeria. He has previously published on the economic role of colonialism in the Francophone Algerian novel.

He is a Co-Director of the departmental Virtual World Language Expo (Spring 2021) and was the 2020 and 2019 UofM Language Fair Co-Director.
