About Dr. McLean

Ian McLean has been an Assistant Professor of Teaching in German and Classics at the University of Memphis since 2022.  He is working on his first book, Storm, Stress, and Sex: Reengaging the Failed Sexual Revolution of the 1770s, which focuses on the disruptive erotics of the Sturm und Drang movement and its unrealized revolutionary potential in the social, economic, and political spheres.  His research interests include classical reception, historical linguistics, and economic theory with a particular concentration on 18th century German literature. He is passionate about helping students make connections between classical literature and our modern world.
