Assistant Professor Position Available

The Biomedical Engineering Department at The University of Memphis (UofM) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The department is looking for an outstanding candidate particularly in imaging areas, and areas in biomechanics, bioprinting, additive manufacturing, biomaterials/drug delivery, implants, tissue/regenerative medicine engineering, bioelectricity, instrumentation and biosensors also will be considered.

The Assistant Professor will be expected to: (1) Develop, nurture, and expand a dynamic, high-impact research program supported by external funding, including establishing productive collaborations with partners at our local and regional medical centers and leveraging opportunities for synergistic collaboration within the department, the Joint BME Graduate Program with University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), The Herff College of Engineering, and the University. (2) Engage in innovation across related science and medical disciplines in a vibrant, entrepreneur-friendly city that is a hub for the medical device industry. (3) Teach and contribute to the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. (4) Contribute to research areas such as imaging, biomechanics, bioprinting, additive manufacturing, biomaterials/drug delivery, implants, tissue/regenerative medicine engineering, bioelectricity, instrumentation, and/or biosensor technologies. (5) Provide service to the department, college, university, and professional community.

The city of Memphis is an attractive location in Tennessee and is world-renowned for its music, food, and hospitality. Memphis is home to over 50 medical device and life science companies including Medtronic Spine & Biologics, Stryker -Trauma & Extremities, Microport Orthopedics, and Smith & Nephew Orthopedics. The Department and Herff College of Engineering have many partnerships with these and other local industries and institutions (e.g. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital) for both research and education applications.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent from an accredited institution in biomedical engineering or a closely related field by the time of appointment. In lieu of a doctoral degree, candidates with an ABD will be considered.
