Ashlyn M. Blair is an Assistant Professor of Teaching at the UofM Lambuth Campus in Jackson, TN,
and the Internship Coordinator for Communication Studies in the Department of Communication
and Film. After earning both her bachelor (2017) and master (2020) degrees in Communication
from the University of Memphis, Ashlyn taught public speaking and interpersonal communication
courses at other institutions until August 2024 when she was honored with the opportunity
to return to her hometown of Jackson and join the University of Memphis Department
of Communication and Film faculty, teaching at the Lambuth Campus.
Ashlyn primarily teaches oral communication and also several elective courses within
the applied communication and rhetoric areas, including interpersonal communication,
communication and leadership, rhetoric and pop culture, and small group communication.
Her current research interests are instructional communication, public speaking pedagogy,
interpersonal communication, visual communication, listening, nonverbal communication,
public memory, and intersectionality. Previous research endeavors included areas/subjects
involving regionalism, place within communication, rhetorical performance, and the
National Civil Rights Museum and the Civil Rights Movement.
