Kristen Hill holds a BA in Film Studies from the University of Missouri and an MA in Communication with a concentration in Film and Video Production from the University of Memphis. As an independent filmmaker, her work has been screened at domestic and international film festivals. Her film, Freedom's Village, received awards including Best Hometowner Short at Indie Memphis and Best Short Film – North America at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival. Her work as a filmmaker informs her approach to teaching, allowing her to bring both academic study and professional, hands-on experience into the classroom.
