Are you interested in attending CU*IP?
Any undergraduate student with an interest in physics may apply to attend a CU*iP. For the last thirteen years, Conferences for Undergraduate Women and Gender Minorities in Physics (CU*iP) has helped undergraduate women thrive in physics by providing them a with a unique opportunity to engage with and learn from other women in physics at all stages of their physics careers. At CU*iP, budding physicists will experience a professional conference, learn about graduate school, learn about academic and non-academic professions in physics, and share invaluable experiences, advice, and ideas with other women. Undergraduate students (18 years and over) are eligible to apply and register for the conference. We encourage graduate students, postdocs or interested faculty to email cuwip@memphis.edu for details about attendance and participation.
Process of applying and acceptance
You apply to attend a CU*iP conference, then you are directed to a nearby CU*iP site. The site reviews your application and you are accepted or declined. After you have been accepted, you will need to register to confirm that you will actually be attending.
Application is now closed
Step 1: Application (Now Closed)
While the conference targets undergraduate women and underrepresented minorities passionate about physics and astronomy, anyone seriously interested in attending CU*iP may apply.
Applications open August 26, 2024 and must be submitted by the deadline of October 23, 2024 at 5:00 pm US Eastern. It is very important to complete all parts of the application and to write a thoughtful Applicant Statement. In case conferences are oversubscribed, priority will be given to applicants who:
- Are undergraduate physics or astrophysics majors
- Are from a community college and plan/intend to transfer to a Physics program
- Have never attended an APS CU*iP
You apply to attend a CU*iP conference and you are accepted, wait-listed or declined according to the priorities listed above. The application is free, and the deadline is October 23, 2024, at 5:00 pm US Eastern.
Step 2: Registration (Now closed)
You will receive an email from APS Physics in early November regarding the status of your application.
After you have been accepted, you then register with the conference to which you have been accepted to confirm that you will actually
be attending. You will be able to register from November 12 to December 8, 2024. Students who are accepted to attend the conference must register for the conference, and complete the pre-conference
survey by December 4, 2024.
Lodging on Friday and Saturday night (for non-local students) and food will be covered
by the conference.
We expect that your travel expenses will be covered by your home department or college. However, if they are not able to cover these expenses, travel funding is available. To be reimbursed for travel, you must contact us before booking any travel arrangements. For details please visit the ‘Logistics’ section of this website.
The deadline to cancel registration to APS and receive a refund is Friday, December 13, 2024.
