Student Resources

In addition to the First Scholars Program, The University of Memphis has several resources dedicated to first generation student success:

  • First Gen Students can participate in the Tiger Success Institute, a workshop series designed specifically for first gen success.
  • First Gen Students can reside in the 1GLLC (First Gen Living Learning Community). The 1GLLC offers a common ACAD 1100 course, academic coaching, and floormate activities specifically for first gen students. Apply for Housing through Residence Life.
  • First Gen Students can participate in the SSP/TRiO program. This office offers one-on-one academic coaching, success workshops, and opportunities for social and cultural connections with other first gen students. Explore the opportunities available through SSP/TRiO.

Faculty and Staff Resources

It's important for our students to see role models who successfully navigated college as first generation students. Faculty and Staff can self-identify as the first in their family to earn a college degree and serve as a role model for students.  If interested, please contact us for more information.
