Society of Women Engineers spreads love with annual fundraiser
Love is in the air at the Herff College of Engineering.
On Thursday, February 12, the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) held its annual "Bae Grams" fundraiser, the organization's largest annual fundraiser.
Students were able to buy a "Bae Gram," personally curated bundles of sweet treats, for others in the days leading up to the event. SWE then emailed the recipients of the goods to let them know someone bought them a little bag of love. Recipients were then able to stop by the SWE table on Thursday to pick up their treats.
The Bae Grams varied in price and it costs more to be shy. For $3, students were able to give someone a signed Bae Gram, while $4 got students a signed Bae Gram and a card and anonymous tokens of love cost $5.
Sophomore biomedical student and SWE member Audrey Alberson said the money raised goes toward the school and career-oriented events the organization hosts throughout the year.
"We do a bunch of meetings throughout the year for panels and advice for people who are looking for internships and resume workshops and all of that. So, this just helps us provide food and make it more of a club," Alberson said.
More than 150 students purchased Bae Grams and while the money raised will surely bring a smile to the faces of the club's members, the reaction at the distribution table was priceless.
"I like seeing everyone get all excited for it because a lot of people don't know that they're getting these and it's fun seeing them, like a little bright and happy thing that they get during the day," Alberson said.
