Dr. Evan Main, a researcher at the University of Memphis' Herff College of Engineering, received the University of Memphis Retirees (UMAR) Dorothy Atra University-Wide Dissertation Award.

The screening committee unanimously chose Dr. Main after viewing multiple nominations. The UMAR committee especially valued the strength and impact of Main's Bonner scholarship, a service-to-community-based financial aid for students.

Main successfully defended his PhD in May 2026 under the supervision of department chair Dr. Gary Bowlin and received his doctorate in biomedical engineering through the joint program of the University of Memphis and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Main also spent the summer overseeing the Tissue Template Engineering and Regeneration Laboratory at the Herff College of Engineering.

"UMAR members are proud to support scholars such as you and we look forward to following your career," the organization told Main in an email announcing the recognition.

The UMAR will publicly recognize Main during an "Elevate & Celebrate" reception at the University Center Fountainview Room between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6.
