Society of Women Engineers holds annual Boo Grams fundraiser

October 29, 2027
The University of Memphis chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) passed out more than 120 "Boo Grams" on Thursday, October 29 as part of their annual Halloween fundraiser.
The Boo Grams, bags of assorted candy, were priced between $3 and $5, depending on if someone wished to only sign their name, leave a note or annonmously purchase the bag of sweet treats for someone special. All of that money supports SWE in their yearly activities.
"All of the money is poured into our members," said Emily Ferrell, a junior in Herff's Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and president of the U of M SWE student chapter for 2026. "So, this is for our events, conferences, professional development. Anything that we can do for our members, we love to pour back into them."
Some of those events include social gatherings, networking opportunities, resume workshops and workshops. The money raised through this, and other, events also helps the SWE students attend their yearly national conference.
"We've made a lot of money from our Boo Grams. Thanks so much to those who supported. We've had a lot of fun events this year already and we have many more fun events planned," Ferrell said.
Yearly membership for the U of M SWE chapter costs $5. Ferrell said the student chapter continues accepting members yearround.
"We would love to have you in our community," Ferrell said.
If you missed out on the Halloween-themed Boo Grams, don't be scared. SWE will sell and distribute Bae Grams in February for Valentine's Day.
