Project Description: The undergraduate research fellow for music education will assist Dr. Hanson with several research projects. The central focus will be a meta-analytic study of past music research investigating instrument and stylistic preferences, best teaching practices, music aptitude and achievement, and/or related areas. The research fellow will be responsible for locating articles in various online databases, finding relevant data points and adding them to a database, and assisting with analysis procedures and data visualization. Secondary projects are possible and may include collecting data on- and off-campus, conducting and transcribing interviews, and similar tasks.

Requirements for Applicants: Self-motivation and a high level of responsibility to complete tasks in a timely manner, strong verbal and written communication skills, a friendly and positive demeanor, prompt responsiveness to supervisor requests, flexibility to adjust to new project requirements as they arise, knowledge of basic research methodologies, and skill with clerical and management tasks using Microsoft Office or similar software. Candidates with knowledge of basic statistical analysis and competence with SPSS software will receive preference.

Project Description: The project is an edition of five volumes of music used in Viennese female convents in the 17th and 18th centuries. The volumes are under contract with A-R Editions, the most prominent publisher of scholarly editions of music. The work would include assisting me in preparing scores in the music notation program Finale, transcribing and collating Italian or German text (the volume(s) we will work on will be determined by the student's skills), and other research assistance.

Requirements for Student Applicants: music major or minor, completion of MUHL 3301 and 3302, facility with Finale, knowledge of either German or Italian
