Dr. Bill Hardgrave begins first day as 13th President of the University of Memphis

April 1, 2022 — Dr. Bill Hardgrave began his first official day as the 13th President of the University of Memphis on campus Friday meeting, greeting, listening and learning.

“It is a tremendous honor to officially begin serving this great University,” said Hargrave. “I am excited to get started.”

Prior to the UofM, Hardgrave served as Auburn University’s Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs since January 2018. He served as dean of Auburn’s Harbert College of Business from August 2010 through December 2017.

“I very much look forward to getting to know the faculty and staff at the UofM, and I know we will do exceptional work together,” said Hargrave. “Our students will be our top priority. The UofM exists because of and for the students.

“I am already aware of our wonderful community and loyal supporters and their incredible passion for our institution. It is truly inspiring, and they will continue to play a vital role in the future of the UofM.”

Hardgrave recognized the exponential growth in the UofM and looks to take the University to even greater heights.

“I greatly appreciate the leadership of my predecessor, Dr. M. David Rudd, along with the Board of Trustees,” said Hardgrave. “The UofM is in a terrific position as a Carnegie I institution and one of the two flagship universities in the State of Tennessee to continue its upward trajectory. The best is yet to come.”
