LCON Champion: Brenda Fortney

Brenda Fortney

As part of our 2025/2026 theme Reset, Refocus, Renew, the Loewenberg College of Nursing proudly recognizes Brenda Fortney as this month’s LCON Champion.

An LCON Champion represents the heart of the college—faculty and staff who go above and beyond in advancing our mission and uplifting our community. These individuals embody excellence through their dedication to students, commitment to academic and professional growth, and passion for service. Whether through teaching, mentorship, support, or leadership, LCON Champions reflect the values of integrity, compassion, and innovation that define our college. They are the faces of LCON who inspire others, strengthen our community, and help shape the next generation of nurse leaders.

Brenda has dedicated 25 years of service to LCON, beginning in July 1999 as faculty secretary before advancing to dean’s secretary in 2007. After a brief time away, she returned and worked her way to her current role as Clinical Placement Coordinator, a position she has held for the past 15 years. In this role, Brenda plays a vital part in coordinating undergraduate schedules, securing clinical placements, and ensuring students meet the required hospital health documentation standards.

Her commitment to LCON is reflected not only in her work, but also in her heart for students. From supporting the SNA Angel Tree project to receiving the Students’ Choice Outstanding Staff Award (2008–2009) and the University of Memphis Outstanding Employee Award (2004), Brenda’s contributions continue to shape the college in meaningful ways. She takes great pride in watching LCON alumni grow into accomplished nurse leaders across the region and beyond.

Please join us in celebrating Brenda Fortney, whose dedication, excellence, and Tiger spirit embody the very best of the LCON community!
