UofM SPH initiative to advance Student Centeredness by Supporting Student Success

September 2023 - The UofM SPH is 1 of only 8 SPH schools nationwide to offer each public health student an American Public Health Association (APHA) membership. This student initiative began in 2023.

The American Public Health Association (APHA) is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving public health and achieving healthcare opportunities across communities in the United States. APHA serves as a convenor, catalyst, and advocate, working to strengthen the public health system and build capacity across the field. APHA brings together experts from all fields of public health, including epidemiologists, health educators, researchers, and policymakers, to advance research, policy and practice.

APHA plays a key role in advocating for science-based public health policies at all levels of government, while also providing education, training, and resources to support the public health workforce. The annual APHA meeting provides a vital forum for sharing knowledge, building skills, and driving change. APHA’s work spans a wide range of public health issues, with initiatives focused on education, policy development, capacity building and advocacy.
