Tuesday, 03 March 2026

The University of Memphis School of Public Health hosted a workshop on “Strengthening Research Impact Through Effective Written Communication when Translating Research into Publications”.

Researchers and scholars participated in the workshop, which focused on improving written communication for research publications. The workshop emphasized the importance of translating complex scientific findings into clear, compelling messages that can reach academic audiences, policymakers and the public.

The session was facilitated by Amber Palmer-Halma and Herschel Pollard of Vanderbilt University, who shared practical strategies for strengthening research writing. Participants explored ways to structure manuscripts, clearly communicate research significance and align their writing with journal expectations.

Through interactive discussion and examples, attendees gained tools to improve clarity, organization and storytelling in their research. The session highlighted that effective written communication is essential for ensuring research findings are accessible, understood and impactful across academic and professional communities.
