UofM SPH Public Health on Wheels Initiative Visits Camellia Foundation

Medicos Medical Center

Wednesday, 04 March 2026

The University of Memphis School of Public Health hosted its 3rd Public Health on Wheels trip, on Wednesday, March 4.  SPH students visited Camellia Foundation/Medicos Medical Center where they received a behind-the-scenes tour of the integrated model of healthcare the center provides its patients.

During the visit, Joann Labrador, the Office Manager at Camellia Foundation/Medicos Medical Center, led 15 SPH students on a tour of the pediatric, maternal, family, and behavioral health clinics. Students learned first-hand how their team of dedicated doctors and staff address the public health challenges they encounter in their daily operations.

Dr. John McMillan Rodney, Associate Professor of Family Medicine & Fellowship Director at Medicos Para La Familia and President of the Camellia Foundation, highlighted how trust, coordination of care, and long-term relationship building have both improved patient health outcomes and increased clinic efficiency and effectiveness.

The School of Public Health would like to thank the Camellia/Medicos staff for helping us take public health learning beyond the classroom and into the community!
