Tuesday, 13 October 2026

The University of Memphis School of Public Health (UofM SPH) Community Outreach Representative, Steve Shular, toured the Mid-South Food Bank with Reginald Alexander, Director of Government and Community Relations at the food bank.

During the tour, Mr. Shular highlighted the latest updates from the School of Public Health and the opportunity for SPH students to partake in practicums, internships and other opportunities at the food bank.

The Mid-South Food Bank serves 31 counties, 18 in northern Mississippi, 12 including Shelby and surrounding counties in Tennessee and Crittenden County in eastern Arkansas.

Food availability, particularly in food deserts in the inner city of Memphis and other neighborhoods, is closely linked to public health.

The UofM SPH joins 300 other community organizations, faith-based groups, food pantries, and businesses that partner with the food bank’s mission to alleviate hunger.
