University of Memphis Researcher Earns Top Honors at Tennessee AI Innovation Conference

Artificial intelligence leaders from across Tennessee gathered this spring at Tennessee Tech University for "From Lab to Market: Accelerating AI Innovation," a statewide conference highlighting how cutting-edge research is driving commercialization, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.

Hosted by Tennessee Tech in collaboration with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Launch Tennessee, and partners across the state's AI ecosystem, the conference brought together researchers, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and policymakers to explore strategies for moving AI innovations from the laboratory to the marketplace.

The day featured presentations on applied AI, startup development, technology commercialization, workforce development, and industry-academic partnerships, reinforcing Tennessee's growing reputation as a national leader in artificial intelligence innovation.

Among the conference highlights was the AI Pitch Competition, where innovators from across the state presented emerging technologies with commercial potential. Dr. Santosh Kumar, Lillian and Morrie Moss Chair of Excellence Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Memphis, earned third place for his innovative AI-driven technology, demonstrating the University's continued leadership in developing impactful, market-ready research.

The conference also featured speakers from academia, industry, and government, showcasing successful examples of AI commercialization and emphasizing the importance of collaboration in transforming research discoveries into practical solutions.
