Naloxone (Narcan) Access at UofM
The University of Memphis Student Health and Counseling Services supports overdose prevention through education, awareness, and access to naloxone.
Naloxone emergency kits are available in designated areas of the Student Health Center and Counseling Center. Each kit contains:
- Intranasal naloxone
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Step-by-step administration instructions
- Emergency response guidance
- Information on recognizing opioid overdose symptoms
- QR code linking to mobile overdose response instructions
Educational materials on overdose prevention, naloxone use, and harm reduction are available in the waiting areas and common spaces of both centers.
Naloxone Training
SHCS offers naloxone education and training opportunities throughout the academic year. Training participants learn:
- How to recognize an opioid overdose
- When and how to administer naloxone
- How to respond while waiting for emergency medical services
- Harm reduction and overdose prevention strategies
