CPLS Senior Experience
CPLS is dedicated to our students’ success as they prepare to graduate from the University of Memphis. We know there can be a lot of questions about next steps and what happens after graduation, so we have a dedicated team ready to help you on your journey!
All CPLS undergraduate students completing one of our Professional or Liberal studies programs are required to take UNIV 4995 – Senior Project. Beginning Spring 2022, students will assemble a portfolio that represents their collected experiences as a CPLS student. Portfolio requirements include the following:
- Reflective Letter: Reflect and evaluate how your work as a CPLS major has prepared you for professional employment or graduate studies.
- Resume: Work with Career Services to prepare a professional resume.
- Research Paper: Submit a minimum 5-page research paper, marketing report, or other
detailed report using APA formatting.
- Report on teamwork and collaboration: Prepare a 1-2 page word document detailing your
participation in coursework, activities, or events that demonstrate your ability to
collaborate with others and work as part of a team. Alternatively, you can prepare
a minimum 5 slide PowerPoint presentation or use part of your ELC portfolio to demonstrate
your completion of this learning outcome.
- Report on leadership and civic responsibility: Prepare a 1-2 page word document detailing
your participation in leadership activities, civic organizations, volunteer work,
etc. Alternatively, you can prepare a minimum 5 slide PowerPoint presentation or use
part of your ELC portfolio to demonstrate your completion of this learning outcome.
Please use a different reporting method than you did for the report on teamwork and
collaboration. For example, if you wrote a paper for the teamwork and collaboration
learning outcome, submit a PowerPoint presentation for this assignment.
Career Services seeks to complement the academic mission of the University by educating and empowering students to take ownership of their professional development as lifelong learners and to function successfully in a global society.
CPLS has a dedicated Career Services specialist ready to help you on your resume, prepare for interviews, explore careers and more. Review instructions to meet with our Career Specialist.
Preparing for Graduation
Undergraduate CPLS students who are within two semesters of graduation should review the required process to file for graduation. Our Commencement office provides full details and requirements that must be completed by the posted deadline.
Do you have a stop out period of at least one semester? Do you have a 2.0 GPA? Then you may qualify for Finish Line, a degree completion program that helps students with 90 credits or more finish their degrees in a timely fashion. Submit an inquiry to see if you qualify.
