CPLS Senior Experience

CPLS is dedicated to our students’ success as they prepare to graduate from the University of Memphis. We know there can be a lot of questions about next steps and what happens after graduation, so we have a dedicated team ready to help you on your journey!

All CPLS undergraduate students completing one of our Professional or Liberal studies programs are required to take UNIV 4995 – Senior Project during their graduating semester.

Students will assemble aportfolio that represents their collected experiences as a CPLS student. This portfolio will be worth a maximum 500 points and they must pass course with a minimum 70% out of 100% scale.

Portfolio requirements include the following:

  • Reflective Letter: Reflect and evaluate how your work as a CPLS major has prepared you for professional employment or graduate studies Draft submission up to 50 points.

  • Resume: Work with Career Services to prepare a professional resume. Draft submission up to 50 points.

  • Research paper: Submit a minimum 5-page research paper, marketing report, or other detailed report using APA formatting. Draft submission up to 50 points.

  • Report on teamwork and collaboration: Prepare 3-5 pages Word document detailing your participation in coursework, activities, or events that demonstrate your ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team to solve a problem or achieve a common goal. You may also use an appropriate portion of your previously submitted ELC portfolio to demonstrate your master of this learning outcome. Draft submission up to 50 points. 

  • Report on leadership and civic responsibility: Prepare 6 slides minimum of a Power Point presentation detailing your participation in leadership activities, civic organizations, volunteer work, etc. You may also use an appropriate portion of your previously submitted ELC portfolio to demonstrate your mastery of this learning outcome. Draft submission up to 50 points.

  • Completed Portfolio: This includes the revised versions of the above artifacts, with a required document detailing such revisions, for a total of up to 250 points.

Preparing for Graduation

Undergraduate CPLS students who are within two semesters of graduation should review the required process to file for graduation. Our Commencement office provides full details and requirements that must be completed by the posted deadline. 

Finish Line 

Do you have a stop out period of at least one semester? Do you have a 2.0 GPA? Then you may qualify for Finish Line, a degree completion program that helps students with 90 credits or more finish their degrees in a timely fashion. Submit an inquiry to see if you qualify.
