Welcome to the Center For Writing and Communication!

The Center for Writing and Communication (CWC), located on the first floor of Ned R. McWherter Library, is a combined writing and speaking center that offers free, one-on-one consultations with a trained staff comprised of graduate students from the Departments of English and Communication. CWC consultants will provide you with feedback on your writing and speaking assignments at any stage in the process, from understanding an assignment, developing a topic, implementing standard citation styles (APA, MLA, etc.), and every step between.

Whether you are working on academic papers, presentations, or speeches or personal documents such as letters of intent or scholarship essays, you may visit the CWC to request assistance with developing your own editing strategies, improving the mechanics of your writing, thinking critically about your research, and honing your verbal and non-verbal presentation style. While the CWC does not perform line-by-line editing services, we will work with you to help you gain the knowledge and confidence you need to improve your writing and speaking skills.

If you are delivering a speech or presentation, you can practice in our presentation studio

Students are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment, but walk-in sessions may at times be available when the CWC is open.

For assistance locating resources and conducting research, contact the library at the Ask-A-Librarian page or you can set up a Research Appointment.
