Tuesday, 28 April 2026 - The University of Memphis College of Education recognizes April 2026 honorees for Student Teacher, Mentor Teacher and Supervisor of the Month.

The College of Education Office of Teacher Education and Clinical Practice (OTECP) is proud to announce the recipients of Student Teacher, Mentor Teacher and Supervisor of the Month for April 2026: Madison Milius, Demetra Dowdy and Dr. Crystal White.

Milius, a Teaching All Learners (TALN) major, is completing her residency at Oak Elementary in Bartlett City Schools. She comes from a military family that has lived in the U.S., Italy and Japan and said this recognition affirms her goal of making a difference in students’ lives.

“This recognition means the world to me and makes me confident in the path I’ve chosen,” Milius said. “My ‘why’ is making a difference in children’s lives, and I’m grateful to see that impact already taking shape.”

Dowdy, a kindergarten teacher at Power Center Academy Elementary School’s Hickory Hill campus, is in her ninth year at the school and fifth year teaching. As a mentor teacher, she focuses on building strong foundations in math and early literacy while helping students grow in confidence.

“Being recognized as Mentor Teacher of the Month is truly an honor,” Dowdy said. “It means a great deal to know that my efforts to support and guide others are valued.”

She added that mentoring residency candidates is especially meaningful as she watches their growth over time.

“Watching them build confidence, connect with students and develop their own teaching style is incredibly rewarding,” she said.

White, a clinical supervisor with OTECP, is recognized for her dedication to supporting teacher candidates. Known for her patience and encouragement, she is often described as a true partner in the teacher preparation process.

“Crystal White is the best. She is so patient and understanding,” one nominee shared. “She goes above and beyond to support her candidates.”
