The University of Memphis College of Education has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Jiangsu Normal University in China, establishing a partnership that will support collaborative research and academic exchange between the two institutions.

The agreement follows nearly a year of discussions and builds on shared interests in education, research and global engagement.

“Our faculty are excited about this collaboration, and it helps us expand our international presence,” said Dr. Michael Miller, dean of the University of Memphis College of Education. “The partnership already has prompted joint research, and we are hopeful that it will help broaden our students’ perspectives on learning, the importance of community and formal and informal schooling among people around the world.”

Founded in 1952, Jiangsu Normal University enrolls more than 30,000 students and is recognized as one of China’s leading universities. Its School of Educational Sciences offers programs similar to those at the University of Memphis, including elementary education, educational psychology, secondary education and clinical psychology.

“This MOU will help our faculty and students expand their global exposure to critical issues in education while building collaborative bridges that strengthen both of our research programs,” said Dr. Peng Chen, dean of the School of Educational Sciences at Jiangsu Normal University. “We look forward to hosting Memphis faculty here and, similarly, having our faculty visit Memphis.”

The partnership reflects the College of Education’s commitment to preparing educators, researchers and leaders to serve an increasingly interconnected world while expanding opportunities for international engagement.
