University of Memphis College of Education Faculty Recognized for Tenure and Promotion

The University of Memphis College of Education (COE) is proud to recognize several faculty members who received tenure and promotion during the 2025–26 academic year.
Representing departments across the College, these faculty members have demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, leadership and service while helping prepare the next generation of educators, counselors, researchers and leaders.
“These recognitions reflect the dedication, scholarship and impact our faculty bring to the College of Education each day,” said Dean Michael Miller. “Their work continues to strengthen our programs, support our students and advance education across Memphis and beyond.”
Faculty recognized for promotion to Associate Professor of Teaching include:

• Mehmet Ozturk, Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research (CEPR)
Faculty recognized for promotion to Associate Professor with Tenure include:
- Genia Bettencourt, Leadership (LEAD)
• Dan Collier, Leadership (LEAD)
• Anna Falkner, Instruction and Curriculum Leadership (ICL)
Faculty recognized for promotion to Full Professor include:
- Craig Shepherd, Instruction and Curriculum Leadership (ICL)
• Leigh Harrell-Williams, Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research (CEPR)
• Alison Happel-Parkins, chair of Leadership (LEAD)
• Brian Wright, Instruction and Curriculum Leadership (ICL)
These recognitions highlight the College’s commitment to academic excellence and the important role faculty play in advancing research, mentoring students and serving communities throughout Memphis and beyond.
