Larry Moore was featured in the American Thinker Journal

Dr. Larry Moore, professor in the Crews School of Accountancy, recently had a piece titled, “Juneteenth’s Historical Irony and the Forgotten Emancipation Proclamation,” published in the American Thinker. The article argues that while Juneteenth commemorates the delayed enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation and has become a powerful national symbol of freedom, the proclamation itself had limited immediate impact and even sparked resistance in the North. It contrasts this with earlier emancipation efforts that were more effective in practice, suggesting history often elevates symbolic events over their actual results.

David Gagnon provides expert testimony on local news

David Gagnon, assistant professor of Teaching in the Department of Supply Chain Management, recently shared his industry expertise during two local television interviews discussing the FedEx Freight spin-off.

In an interview with Joe Birch of WMC Action News 5, Gagnon explained the significance of FedEx Freight's debut as an independent company on the New York Stock Exchange. Drawing on his firsthand experience at FedEx, he discussed how the separation allows both FedEx and FedEx Freight to sharpen their strategic focus while positioning FedEx Freight to pursue growth opportunities with greater flexibility. He also noted that the move reflects a broader trend in the transportation and logistics industry, where companies are restructuring to enhance competitiveness and create long-term shareholder value.

In a second interview with Kate Bieri of FOX13 Memphis, Gagnon discussed what the spin-off could mean for Memphis. He explained that although the separation represents a major change for one of the city's largest employers, he expects both companies to maintain their headquarters in Memphis, reinforcing the city's role as a global logistics hub. Gagnon emphasized that the independent companies will be better positioned to focus on their core businesses while driving future growth, innovation and long-term value.
