Scott Vann coauthored article on AI-supported learning
Dr. Scott Vann, assistant professor of Teaching in the Department of Management Information Systems, recently coauthored an article in Technology, Knowledge and Learning titled “Reimagining Inquiry Through AI: Emerging Technologies for Scalable Complex Problem-Solving.”
The article explores the design and development of a customized AI chatbot to support high school seniors completing industry-based internships and capstone projects. Drawing on established learning theories and course materials, the chatbot was designed to help students set goals, reflect on challenges and monitor their progress. The work highlights AI’s potential to provide personalized support while keeping teachers central to the learning process. The project was supported in part by an AI Tennessee grant. Larry Martinez published in Applied Psychology
Dr. Larry Martinez, PSI professor of Human Resource Management, joined the Fogelman College this fall. He recently coauthored a paper titled “Retention at risk” Progressive communication expectation violations among professionals of color,” which was published in Applied Psychology.
The study explores how professionals of color experience racism and exclusion in Portland, Oregon, a community known for its progressive values. Researchers found that when people’s experiences fell short of their expectations for inclusivity, they often felt less connected to their community and experienced greater work-related stress. The findings also highlight how supportive workplace cultures and employers can help reduce stress and support the well-being and retention of professionals of color.
