When to Apply

To receive priority consideration Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible beginning October 1st .

Entering in Fall?  Submit by February 1st
NOTE: The Tennessee Student Assistance Award (TSAA) deadline is February 17.  If you are a Tennessee resident, are Pell eligible, pursuing a first bachelor's degree, and meet other state criteria, you will lose out on receiving this grant if you complete the FAFSA after the February 17th deadline.

Entering in Spring? Submit by October 1st

Entering in Summer?  Submit by March 1st

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

  • The 2018-2019 school year includes Fall 2018, Spring 2019, and Summer 2019.
  • The 2019-2020 school year includes Fall 2019, Spring 2020, and Summer 2020.
  • Summer aid requires manual review and evaluation. Visit our summer page for more information about this process. 
  • June 30, 2019 is the deadline for the central processing service to receive your FAFSA for the 2018-2019 school year.
  • Failure to meet the FAFSA and document submission deadlines may result in late payment fees and/or registration cancellation due to non-payment.

Financial Aid Processing Timeline 2019-2020

Your attention to this timeline will help to ensure your aid is processed prior to your first day of class.

  • October - Continuing and new students need to complete the FAFSA online for the 2019-2020 academic year (includes Fall 2019, Spring 2020 and Summer 2020).
  • November and December - Watch for your 2019-2020 Student Aid Report (results of your FAFSA filing). Pay attention to any document request e-mail notices received from the Financial Aid Office. SUBMIT REQUIRED DOCUMENTS IN A TIMELY FASHION.
  • New Freshmen/New Transfers
    • January - View your Financial Aid Award for Fall 2019 on myMemphis under the Account$ tab. If necessary, change award years by choosing the Award Information by Year option. The Student Requirements section will indicate if you are missing any financial aid documents for a particular award year.
      NOTE: The deadline to submit ALL required documents for the Fall term is APRIL 01
    • March/April - Review your award information available on myMemphis. You can elect to 'Accept,' 'Accept Partial,' or 'Decline' any awards offered to you
    • June - Check to be sure you have done everything you are supposed to do for the Fall 2019 semester. Have you submitted all missing documents?
    • July - You are LATE in applying for financial aid and/or submitting required documents.
    • August - You are EXTREMELY LATE in applying for Financial Aid and/or submitting required documents. Your aid may not be processed by the fall fee payment deadline. You may need to cover your own fees until such time that your aid can be processed.
  • Continuing Students
    • May - Once spring grades are finalized, the Student Financial Aid Office will review your account and make financial aid award offers available for eligible students mid to late May. You can view your Financial Aid Award for Fall 2019 on myMemphis under the Account$ tab. If necessary, change award years by choosing the Award Information by Year option. The Student Requirements section will indicate if you are missing any financial aid documents for a particular award year.
