About the Sandbox
Located on the UofM Main Campus in McWherter Library, the Sandbox is a collection of collaborative spaces and technology available to all UofM students and employees. The Sandbox spaces include a Video Production Studio, a Podcast Production Studio, an Audio Production Studio, a Presentation Practice Studio, and a Creatorspace that includes 3D printers, a laser cutter, Cricut smart cutter, heat press, and more. Interested in using our Prusa 3D printers, Glowforge Laser Cutter, or Cricut smart cutter? Orientations for sandbox technology are available each semester and are required before reserving sandbox technology. View the full calendar of upcoming orientations and sign up for an orientation today at libcal.memphis.edu.
Group orientations are also available for classes! If you are an instructor and think your students could use our 3D printers or Glowforge Laser Cutter for a class project, please email thesandbox@memphis.edu and we can schedule a special session so your students will be authorized to use our equipment.
Interested in recording a podcast? Studio 224 has everything you need to get started. We also have an Audio Studio, Video Studio and Presentation Practice Studio available. Before reserving a studio, an online orientation is required. Take the Orientation and Quiz here and get authorized to make reservations. Once you are authorized, visit the Reservations page to reserve time in a studio.
The Sandbox also includes technology that can be checked out for free with your UofM ID from McWherter Library's first floor Checkout Desk. Avaialble technology includes laptops, art tablets, audio recorders, calculators, cameras, charger cords, headphones, microphones, projectors, video games and more.
