Importance of Vaccinations for Researchers

Efforts to make campus safer

The University recently shared information regarding Executive Order 14042, an order requiring that all employees of organizations that perform work for the federal government (federal contractors) provide proof of being fully vaccinated no later than December 8, unless the employee is legally entitled to an accommodation due to a medical condition or religious belief. Note that a call for a third session of the 112th General Assembly has been issued and will bring both the House and Senate back into session on October 27, 2021, to allow for legislation related to vaccines, masks and other restrictions relative to COVID-19. As we wait on further guidance from the state, we strongly encourage University faculty, staff and student employees who are not vaccinated to again consider getting the vaccine.

To comply with the original executive order date of December 8:

  • You will need to receive your first dose of the Moderna two-dose vaccine no later than October 27, 2021, or the Pfizer two-dose vaccine no later than November 2, 2021, and your second dose of either vaccine no later than November 23, 2021;

  • If you opt to get the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) one-shot vaccine, the deadline would be no later than November 23, 2021

Please note that according to the federal guidelines, a person is only considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the J&J vaccine or the second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine.
