How the Process Works

Post the Position

Create an employer account on Handshake and post your internship. Be sure to label it by semester (e.g., "Summer 2026 Internship")

Get Started

Select & Interview

Review student applicants and coordinate with MHIP staff to confirm student eligibility before scheduling interviews.

Post a Job

Onboard & Mentor

Once an offer is extended, we initiate onboarding. You provide the site supervision and a learning-focused environment.

A transformative internships goes beyond clerical tasks. We ask our partners to provide:

  • Meaningful Work: Assign projects that contribute to your mission and allow students to apply their research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Regular Mentorship: Designate a site supervisor for consistent check-ins and professional guidance.
  • Commitment to Growth: Help students align their work with the NACE Career Readiness Competencies, including Professionalism, Teamwork, and Critical Thinking.
