About Dr. Winsor
Denise L. Winsor is an associate professor in the Counseling, Educational Psychology & Research Department in the College of Education. Dr. Winsor received her doctorate degree in Educational Psychology, with an emphasis on Foundations and Human Development from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Dr. Winsor teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in early childhood development; and multicultural/diverse issues in the classroom. Her research interested include: cognitive and emtional development over a lifespan (primarily PreK-12). More specifically, how an individual's epistemic beliefs, self-regulation, and motivation impact student learning; and different teaching models (i.e., problem-based learning, student-centered, core knowledge). Using a dynamic or ecological systems framework, Dr. Winsor is interested in the relationship between the teacher and the student in regard to student performance and attribution theory. Currently, Denise is investigating preschool-age children's conceptions of knowledge; and their developmental process of knowing and understanding the world around them using artful expressions. Also, how to more effectively educate preschool children using developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood classrooms. In addition, she is working collaboratively to develop a science curriculum for preschool education using science inquiry methods; and utilizing a systems approach (i.e., child, teacher, parent, and peer interactions) to better understand the epistemological development of very young children as they become school-ready. Dr. Winsor has worked extensively with the Head Start Program in the Memphis area doing research and conducting professional development
