FCBE Finance Doctoral Students Recognized for Outstanding Achievements

Third year Ph.D. student, Xiaohu Deng, was recently awarded the competitive American Finance Association travel grant. Only 120 grants are awarded worldwide.  The grant carries a purse of $1,000 to attend the Annual Meeting in Boston from January 2nd through the 5th. The conference is a special opportunity to network with and learn from the world's most outstanding researchers in the field of Finance. Professor Sandra Mortal and Dr. Pankaj Jain sponsored Deng's nomination for this prestigious award.

Third year doctoral student, Vivek Sharma, recently presented his joint research with Dr. Pankaj Jain and Dr. Lei Gao at the Northern Finance Association Conference. Their paper titled, “Institutional Trading around Material Information Announcements,” studies institutional trading around information leakages during corporate events. The paper was among the top 20 selected in its highly competitive session from among 121 entries. The session featured some of the world's most outstanding researchers in the field of Finance as mentors to the budding doctoral students.
