FCBE faculty and staff received awards at 2016 spring meeting

Seven FCBE faculty and staff members were recipients of the George Johnson Award as well as the Dean's Service Award at the 2016 spring faculty and staff meeting. These faculty and staff members were recognized for either their excellent service in staff roles or for their outstanding teaching performances.

The George Johnson Fellow Award was given to three FCBE faculty members in the "Teaching" category. Dr. Kelly Mollica, instructor in the Department of Management, won for her innovative teaching techniques, including the utilization of a "flipped classroom" approach. She also received this award for her leadership role in developing and implementing effective online teaching techniques and online instructional standards with the Online Standards Committee.

Nap Overton, instructor in the Department of Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate, was also a winner in the "Teaching" category. Nap won for his commitment to student learning, consistently strong SETE scores, and his pivotal role of introducing finance to large numbers of online and on campus business students.

Dr. Michael Cervetti, instructor in the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management, was the third winner in the "Teaching" category. He was selected for this award based on his consistently high-enrollment numbers in his undergraduate, honors, and master's level classes. Furthermore, Michael was an early adopter of online learning and worked diligently to develop a library of online-ready content. He is a gifted communicator, and although he carries a heavy teaching load, he remains approachable, student-oriented, and accessible.

Dean Grover presented each of these George Johnson Fellow Awards, which includes a commemorative plaque and a $10,000 stipend.

The George Johnson Staff Award was given to two FCBE staff members. Felicia Roddy-Jackson won for her outstanding work as scholarship coordinator and academic advisor. She works tirelessly to recruit and retain exceptional business students. She always displays a warm and positive attitude while effectively communicating with students and donors.

Carol Thomas, administrative secretary for the Dean's Office, was also awarded the George Johnson Staff Award for her extraordinary performance. She demonstrates overall excellence and professionalism in service to the College, takes on problem-solving assignments with external parties, and communicates effectively to reach solutions. She is always willing to take on assignments and offers generous assistance and support to colleagues.

Dean Grover presented the George Johnson Staff awards based on recommendations of an advisory committee. The award included a plaque and a $5,000 stipend.

The Dean's Service Award was given to two staff members who have demonstrated exceptional performance in the fulfillment of their duties. Carolyn Cates, in the Avron B. Fogelman Professional Development Center, helps students reach their professional potential by giving helpful feedback regarding their resumes. She is committed to student success and the Complete Professional Program's mission. Her efforts have tremendously increased the number of employer and internship opportunities for students.

Jamie Barthol, facilities service coordinator, also received the Dean's Service Award. Since his arrival in January, he has proven to be a conscientious, resourceful, and responsive employee. Jaime strives to get the job done whether it is by working with the vast array of Physical Plant workers or by doing the task himself.

The Dean's Service Award winners received a plaque and a $1,000 stipend.
