Pamela Nix named the 2018 Ferris Hooshmand Scholarship Award recipient

For release:  August 27, 2018

The Executive MBA Program would like to congratulate Pamela Nix on being named the 2018 Ferris Hooshmand Scholarship Award recipient. Pamela was awarded the $2,500 scholarship at the 2018 Executive Residency Week Celebration Dinner on August 8, 2018. Pamela is Executive Director, Kappa Delta Sorority and Foundation and is a member of the Executive MBA Class of 2018 cohort.

The Ferris Hooshmand Scholarship Award was established to benefit returning second year students in the Executive MBA Program at the University of Memphis in honor of Class of 2000 graduate, Ferris Hooshmand, who lost his battle with lung cancer in the summer of 2005.

His classmates, family, and friends joined together in a grassroots effort, establishing this annual award program to create a lasting tribute to Ferris and his character of courage and enthusiasm. Ferris immigrated to the United States from Iran at a time of political unrest and started a new life here. He was employed by FedEx and entered the EMBA Program because of his dedication to learning and growing in his career.

To qualify for the award, students must:

  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA in the first year
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, enthusiasm for life-long learning, and overcoming adversity at some point in their lives

There have been over $30,000 in scholarship funds awarded to Executive MBA student recipients since the scholarship was established in 2006. With the help of Ferris' family and classmates, the Executive MBA Program is proud to continue to honor his memory and legacy.

The Executive MBA program at the University of Memphis transforms already accomplished business professionals into proven business leaders. This intensive 17-month, Fall-to-Fall program is exclusive to professionals with five-plus years of management experience and an established record of excellence in their field.
