Honors College Student Awarded Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant

Taylor ArtisJuly 1, 2026. Taylor Artis of Memphis, Tennessee, recently was awarded a study abroad grant worth $1,000 from The Honors Society of Phi Kappa Phi—the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Artis is one of 75 students nationwide to receive the award.

Currently a junior majoring in psychology with a concentration in neuroscience and a minor in child development, Artis used the grant to study child psychology in Dublin, Ireland. While studying abroad at CEA Cappa Dublin Center, Artis visited an Irish DEIS Plus Primary School and attended lectures by practicing psychiatrists and psychologists.

“The Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad grant enabled me to focus on my academics and experiences without a financial strain,” Artis said. “I was immersed in Irish culture, from the music and food to visiting Belfast and the beautiful Cliffs of Moher. This experience has expanded my academic interests in child development and neurology, while strengthening my independence abroad.”

The selection process for a study abroad grant is based on the applicant’s academic achievement, campus and community service, relation of travel to career goals, a personal statement, letters of recommendation, and acceptance into a study abroad program.

Applicants for the Phi Kappa Phi study abroad grant do not need to be a member of the honors society, but they need a GPA of 3.75 or higher. Students interested in applying for this award should contact the Honors College, which coordinates the Phi Kappa Phi chapter at the University of Memphis.
