About Prof. Chuck McGill

Chuck McGill is a 42-year-old former newspaperman who has taken a non-linear journey through life. Prof. McGill is a 9-time West Virginia Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sports Media Association who has also helped contribute -- on and off camera -- to the Emmy-winning ESPN documentary "Rand University." Prof. McGill is a former high school teacher and coach who met his wife at a college student newspaper, and their mutual love of words propelled them to so many joint adventures. Prof. McGill is the former sports editor at The Northern Virginia Daily, Charleston Daily Mail and Charleston Gazette-Mail. After he left the newspaper business, Prof. McGill was hired as the Assistant Athletic Director for Fan Engagement and Communications at Marshall University. While at Marshall, Prof. McGill helped create Thundering Herd Illustrated, the Official Athletics publication of Marshall University. Later, he was elevated to Associate Director of Athletics for External Engagement and Fan Experience, in which he had oversight of the department's marketing, social media, digital streaming, graphic design and website. For the past year, Prof. McGill has worked as a proposal writer at ASRC Federal. Prof. McGill works from home so he can spend as much time as possible with his lovely wife, Lauren, who is a newspaper editor, and their soccer-obsessed son, Gunnar.
