About Prof. Eric Jasper
With over 30 years in strategic media and marketing—mostly in broadcast television and digital media—Eric has plenty of stories to share with students. Since joining the world of academia, he’s taught everything from Mass Media and Cultures to Intro to Public Relations and Strategic Media Writing. He’s currently working on a Doctorate of Liberal Studies at the University of Memphis, focusing on mass communication and cultural studies. His research often investigates how mass media is utilized to disseminate Christian nationalism, conspiracy theories, anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, and anti-immigration narratives.
Eric grew up on the Texas Gulf Coast, where he learned to cook up a mean pot of gumbo—’cause what’s life without a little spice? His career has involved bouncing around seven states, from coast to coast. However, he’s happiest on carefree road trips with his husband, Drew, usually cruising through the desert southwest in search of the perfect taco (selfies included, of course). Obviously, his social media app of choice is Instagram. It’s definitely not Twitter—and sorry (not sorry), he’ll never call it X.
