Honors Ambassadors

The Honors Ambassador Program is a leadership organization within the Helen Hardin Honors College, with the purpose of showcasing our most engaged members to new and current students.

Honors Ambassadors are primarily responsible for assisting staff with honors-sponsored events, offering guidance to current members, encouraging current members to participate in honors experiences, and helping to recruit potential honors students. Honors Ambassadors are expected to be knowledgeable about all aspects of the Honors College; assist with honors orientation meetings; help with fall and spring honors-sponsored events; attend recruitment receptions and college fairs; and other special events as they arise.

Benefits

In addition to a $300 scholarship per semester, students will be able to engage and network with current and prospective honors students as well as with campus staff and faculty.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA, good academic standing, & active enrollment in the Honors College
• Current sophomore status or higher
• Not graduating May 2022 or December 2022. Must be a student for the entire 2022-2023 academic year.
• Preferred QualificationsLeadership & involvement experiences
• Has participated in an Honors experience such as study abroad, internship, research, etc.
• Positive attitude, responsible, reliable, and works well with others

Our Honors Ambassadors are here to talk to you about the Helen Hardin Honors College and being a successful honors student. They come from a variety of academic departments, campus groups, and Honors Experiences.

Ambassadors will be available at UofM Honors events where students to talk about the opportunities available as honors students, give guidance and perspectives on a variety of topics, and offer success tips and resources.

Kyla Anderson
Hometown: San Antonio, TX
Major: Psychology and Biology
Minor: Spanish

I joined the honors college because I have always believed in pushing myself and receiving a great education has always been a main priority of mine. Within the Honors College, I am able to take more advanced courses which prepares me for graduate school and grants me the opportunity to learn more, different, or specific class content in greater depth. Also, the Honors College allows me to be involved both recreational and educational opportunities that aren’t available to everybody on campus. Through both the Honors College and Psychology Honors Program, I am currently working on a thesis for my Behavioral Neuroscience concentration. By pursuing and (eventually) completing my thesis, I am receiving first hand research experiences, knowledge, and skills; all of which will aid in expanding my options for future schooling, career paths, and endeavors. Any potential or current honors students can ask me about undergraduate research, double majoring, class difficulty/contracting, or the out-of-state experience!

Joining the Honors College at the U of M has been one of my most rewarding decisions during my college career. I initially joined to become part of a community of like-minded honors students, and I have done just that and more! I have gotten the opportunity to study abroad in Costa Rica with other Honors students, do research with the Honors Summer Fellowship program and work toward my Honors Thesis, and participate in the Honors Student Organization. Because of the Honors College, I have made friendships and learned skills that will continue with me past my time at Memphis. I am truly blessed because of my experiences in the Honors College.

I joined the Honors College to get the most out of my college academics! I have enjoyed going more in-depth with my course content, and I feel like this experience has really prepared me to be more fully equipped for my future classroom. I have enjoyed taking honors classes, and I am on the executive board of Order of Omega, an all-Greek honors organization on campus! Ask me about how to get involved!

The Honors College is inhabited by driven students, a community I found myself motivated and built by throughout my college career. With their support, I have explored the realms of my interests through direct actions in those fields. Specifically, scientific writing, presentations, and financial support by way of the Honors College prepare me for my future in science. This rigor in conjunction with their social relievers allow for growth in students in a balanced environment. I joined the Honors college because I wanted to be surrounded by like-minded people who can challenge me academically. I've had an amazing experience during my time in the Honors College. I've met great friends, had awesome mentors, and attended events that have helped me connect and network with people I'd never thought I would meet. This has prepared me for my future endeavors in Physical Therapy school and has helped m strengthen my leadership skills. Hey! My name is Riley and I joined the honors college in order to meet a community that will engage me and challenge me to be the best student I can be. Being an honors student has been filled with many great experiences but more importantly will open up future opportunities for me in research, scholarships, and more! I joined the Honors College because I wanted to be challenged in classes that push me to learn, grow, and connect with professors and peers. For me, I have enjoyed my time in the Honors College because their staff is supportive and knowledgeable about student experiences and they know how to help me stay on track academically and socially! One of my favorite perks from being an honors student is the priority class registration and having study space in the honors hall. If I'm not there, you can find me on campus at the library or the UC! If you ever see me, you can ask me about anything related to campus! I am a Resident Advisor, the 2022 Orientation Guide Coordinator, and a former Campus Tour Guide, so I know a lot about campus, resources, and events!

I owe a great deal of my academic career to the Honors College. Without the opportunities, experiences, and resources provided through the Honors College, I would not be developing my undergraduate thesis project. The Honors College has also provided me with a diverse college experience that has significantly enhanced my professional and academic skills, along with providing substantial financial support.
