UofM Honors 2024 Faculty Award Recipients
April 25, 2024 — The University of Memphis recognized its 2024 Faculty Award recipients on Thursday in the Maxine A. Smith University Center. Dr. Sanjay R. Mishra received the Willard R. Sparks Eminent Faculty Award — the highest distinction given to a faculty member by the UofM.
Since joining the Department of Physics and Materials Science at the UofM in 1999, Mishra has been consistently productive in research, instruction and service to the University. His research focuses on developing novel energy materials. This includes high-temperature, energy-dense super magnets for lightweight motors; power-dense supercapacitor batteries for electric vehicles such as drones; and refrigerant-free magnetocaloric materials for cooling applications.
Other awards presented through the UofM Alumni Association include honors in teaching, research and creative excellence annually. The 2024 recipients included:
- Distinguished Research in the Humanities: Marcus Wicker, associate professor of English, First Horizons Foundation Distinguished Professor and MFA program coordinator
- Distinguished Research in the Social Sciences, Business & Law: Andrew Olney, professor in the Institute for Intelligent Systems and Department of Psychology
- Distinguished Research in Science, Engineering & Mathematics: Xiaohua Huang, Dunavant Professor in the Department of Chemistry
- Excellence in Engaged Scholarship Award: Laura Baylot Casey, professor in the Special Education/Applied Behavior Analysis program in the Instruction and Curriculum Leadership Department in the College of Education
- Distinguished Teaching Award: Andrew Garth, associate professor of teaching in the Herff College of Engineering
- Distinguished Teaching Award: Benjamin Graham, associate professor in the Department of History
- Distinguished Teaching Award: Diana Ruggiero, professor in the Department of World Languages and Literatures
