University of Memphis Honor Choir

The University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt Choral Area is excited to welcome singers and conductor-teachers for our 2027 Honor Choir.
This two-day Honor Choir event includes rehearsals and performances of the Honor Choir and a special performance by the University of Memphis University Singers. During the event, participants can work with an exceptional guest conductor, our own Choral Faculty, and choral conducting graduate students. We encourage choral directors to select their finest musicians for this exciting experience.
This year’s Honor Choir features Dr. Nicole Lamartine as our guest clinician and two parallel experiences:
Singer Track
- No prior preparation required
- Voice Masterclass
- Free Trial Voice Lessons with UofM Voice Faculty
- School of Music + choral scholarship auditions
Conductor Track
- Sessions + dedicated Q&A with Dr. Lamartine, UofM Choral Faculty, and fellow directors
- Director’s Chorus, performing on the final Honor Choir concert
- Professional Development (PD) credit
Singer Nominations
Schools may register any number of balanced SATB quartets (1S/1A/1T/1B), with no limit on the number of singers.
Selected students should be strong juniors and seniors, with exceptions for remarkable, mature sophomores.

Honor Choir Conductors
Dr. Nicole Lamartine
Dr. Nicole Lamartine is a distinguished choral educator, conductor, clinician and researcher dedicated to empowering the next generation of choral educators and advancing excellence in 21st-century choral performance. She has conducted and served as a clinician for international, All-State and regional honor choirs and presented her research on rehearsal technique, conductor anatomy and movement at major national and regional conferences. From 2020–2022, she served as Sorensen Director of Choral Music at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and previously spent 12 years as Professor and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Wyoming, where her ensembles performed at numerous national and regional conferences. A champion of music education and new music, Lamartine has commissioned and premiered works by leading composers and currently conducts Chor Anno and serves as founding Artistic Director of the Santa Barbara Gay Men’s Chorus. An accomplished professional singer, she has performed with Conspirare, the Santa Fe Desert Chorale and Colorado Bach Ensemble, served as President of the Northwestern region of the American Choral Directors Association and holds world, national and state powerlifting records. Her “Nicole Lamartine Choral Series,” published by Santa Barbara Music Press, focuses on accessible repertoire for emerging tenor-bass choirs.
Dr. Francis Cathlina
Dr. Francis Cathlina is a Vietnamese-American conductor and educator, renowned for his innovative approach to choral music. His concerts invite audiences into a world where choral artistry becomes a powerful storytelling medium.
