Abstract
The rising global prevalence and economic burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) - particularly diabetes and hypertension - underscore the urgent need for scalable, accessible, and effective health interventions. Poor adherence to essential self-care behaviors, including medication compliance, healthy diet, and regular physical activity, continues to drive adverse health outcomes and elevate healthcare costs. Despite the widespread use of smartphones worldwide, a significant gap remains: the lack of robust, culturally tailored mobile health (mHealth) solutions for NCD prevention and self-management.
This project aims to design and develop “HealthyMe”, a comprehensive, user-centered mobile application available for both Android and iOS. The app is designed to address two core objectives: (1) promoting preventive health behaviors among the general population, and (2) improving adherence to self-care practices among individuals living with diabetes and hypertension.
The development process will follow an iterative, user-centered design framework involving prototype creation, qualitative research with patients and healthcare providers, and rigorous usability testing. HealthyMe will be offered as a free, ad-free platform integrating evidence-based tools and resources. Key features include a) holistic health tracking (blood pressure, glucose, diet, physical activity, mental health, and other self-care behaviors), b) an AI-powered assistant for personalized recommendations, c) smart reminders for medications, diet and physical activity, and d) educational materials on healthy behaviors to promote adherence to preventive and self-care health behaviors.
“HealthyMe” represents an innovative mHealth solution designed to empower individuals with a holistic, evidence-based approach to daily health management. By supporting both prevention and self-care, it has the potential to enhance individual well-being while helping to reduce the broader population burden of NCDs.
